Ömer in Spain, Málaga

Ömer (26) is a system integrator working for KARA AG, an SAP Consulting Enterprise, in Germany. In Málaga, Spain he is working for 4 weeks at App Informática, a hardware retailer.

His tasks are the support of costumers and troubleshooting of hardware. He's also setting up computers for customers. Furthermore he acquired new methods of determining the exact driver for components through its ID to troubleshoot driver problems. Ömer is very satisfied with his workplace, because working at App Informática was a lot of fun to him. The people there were very welcoming and helpful throughout his stay.
During his stay he visited some cultural attractions like the botanical garden of Málaga and the Picasso museum, which he enjoyed a lot. "The Picasso Museum is one of the most beautiful museums I've ever seen and it's designed totally different from all the other museums I know", he said.

He's very interested in coming back to Málaga in his vacations, because he likes to see more of the Costa del Sol and its culture.

Marina's experiences in Spain

Spontaneously Flo and Marina went to Gibraltar last Saturday and made there an awesome trip. They became aware that time was to short to see all of Gibraltar, so Marina contacted a Couchsurfer (www.couchsurfing.com) and received a response from a guy called Stan directly. Stan is a really nice guy, who not just let Flo and Marina sleep at his house, he also showed them whole Gibraltar on his own. They did an exciting but also exhausting climb to the rock for about one and a half hour.

After that the climb reward them with a fantastic panorama up to Africa. And also they met some monkeys during their way up.
At the end of that day they enjoyed a cold beer and best traditional Spanish Tapas they found until now.

Marina worked, as well as Daniel, at Randal Systems.
There she assorted different stuff and added data into a database.

Daniel at Randal Systems

Daniel is 20 years old and in Germany he works as a IT-Specialist at the DAAD
(Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst / "German Academic Change Service").

In his 4 weeks in Málaga he worked at the company Randal Systems. This company modifies and develops electronical components, as special in the field of electronic of tailwater.

His job at Randal Systems is to inventory the IT-Equipment, to test the electronical components and to write a report about how to improve them. He also formatted hard disks and designed a new catalogue for products.

Daniel told us, that working in a foreign country was a very good experience for him. He liked to communicate in a foreign language and getting in touch with a different culture. The thing which Daniel really love about Spain: Pitufos con jamón Serrano, the good weather, the cheap vegetables and the restaurant "El Tapy", where you get free Tapas with every drink that you take.

In his freetime Daniel enjoyed the beach, the bars, the restaurants and the funny cooking sessions with Jascha. Together with Hanna, Marina and a guy from Australia, who also lived in the Hostel, he went to the castle Alcazaba at night.

Florian at Novasoft

Florian is an 18 years old boy from Lindlar, Germany.  He works in a middle stage company which is called inch-media GmbH where he also does his training as an IT-System Specialist.

In Spain he worked at Novasoft - a company with more or less 800 employees. Novasoft also suffers under the crisis in Spain. Florian’s activities there were to create a system image and restore it via network.

He enjoyed Málaga with the hot sun and the peacefully inhibitions. One trip he'll never forget, is the trip to Gibraltar. He told us that the trip to Gibraltar was one of the best and one of the most spontaneous things he did in his time in Spain. He and Marina drove to Gibraltar with the bus at 2pm and when they arrived they realized that the time to enjoin Gibraltar is not enough. Marina asked a Couch-Surfer for a couch for the night. Florian told that it was really funny, because he never did anything like that. The guy who borrows them the “couch” was Stan, a 30 years old boy. He did a sightseeing tour with them to the top of the Mountain in Gibraltar, “it was a really hard trip to get up, believe me there’re so many stairs to walk up”.
After that trip they got a dinner in a Tapas Bar near the border of Gibraltar. “The best jamón I ever eat!” - told Florian.

Steven's Spanish way of life at Coac Málaga

Steven, a 22 year old guy from Cologne, took the chance of the Leonardo Da Vinci project to explore a new way of life.
In Spain most of the people start working at 9am and make siesta at 2pm. So Steven just had to work five hours the day what is very relaxing for people which are used to work not less than eight hours a day.
Moreover the weather in Málaga is almost every day sunny and warm that the whole group was able to go to the beach very often. In the evening Steven was interested in checking out the different clubs in Málaga. He made the experience that there are only very small clubs with some Spanish and chart music - not comparable to the clubs of Cologne which are much bigger and play more genres of music.

The company where Steven worked is called Coac Málaga. There he set up an online shopping cart system with the view to create a list of opportunities the system enables and wrote a manual how to install and configure the system customized to the customer wishes.
All in all it was a really great experience for him to live the Spanish way of life and gaining more knowledge in building web pages.

Impressions of Stephanie's and Jascha's Trip to Marbella

Jascha and Stephanie went to Marbella to see "the rich people". It
took about 45 minutes with the bus to drive there.
The bus drivers don't care about speed limits and drive as fast as
they want to. Very nice when there are a lot of humps and the whole
bus feels like jumping over the street ;-)
First they went to the beach and walked down there just to enjoy the
moment but after that they did not really know what to do but then
they met 3 german ladies who told them to drive with the ship to
Puerto Banus.
When they sailed into the harbour the first thing they saw was a
white Lamborghini. All over the harbour there were a lot of those
high class cars and motor yacht.
Awesome day and a lot of nice impressions!

Stephanie and Jascha at I.E.S Campanillas

Our plane landed at 12:45pm on the 29.04. at Malaga Airport.
Nice start into 4 weeks of work and Malaga because it was raining.
The first days we had time to discover a lot of different beaches.
When Stephanie started to work at the Media Markt she has realised
very quick that it was a simple seller-job and she had the chance to change to
the IES Campanillas.
There Stephanie and Jascha had to install a virtual machine with
Ubuntu and set up a proxy server. Their teacher was very motivated to showed
them a lot of different things and they had a lot of long discussions with him
about for example a problem with a printer and remote sessions.
It was an awesome time there and they felt very welcome!
Nearly the whole group went to the beach nearly every day just to
enjoy the sun and the cold water of the sea.
Stephanie and Jascha went to the "Teatro Romano" and had a beautiful view
over the whole city. There was a huge garden with nice flowers and a little
stream where the water was flowing through the whole castle.
Nearly 3 weeks of sunshine, hot weather and try to tan ;-)
